Mr. Kenneth Williams, Sr. receives 2026 Seymour Weiss Excellence in Teaching Award

Delgado Community College is pleased to announce that Mr. Kenneth Williams, Sr., Associate
Professor of Residential Construction, has been named the recipient of the 2026 Seymour
Weiss Excellence in Teaching Award. This year marks the 47th anniversary of the award,
the most prestigious honor bestowed to a member of the college’s faculty. The presentation
was made during the College's Spring 2026 Commencement ceremony on May 19.
Kenneth Williams Sr., PMP, is an Associate Professor of Residential Construction with
more than three decades of professional experience in residential construction, project
management, and technical workforce education. His academic background includes studies
in music at Xavier University and Holy Cross College, and formal carpentry training at
the Louisiana Vocational–Technical Trade School. This combination of artistic discipline
and technical expertise continues to inform his approach to teaching, scholarship,
and applied research.
Williams’ professional career began as a self-employed carpenter, eventually advancing to a certified refurbishing contractor with extensive experience in residential repairs, renovations, remodeling, and new construction. He holds both city and state contractor licenses, in addition to a wide range of professional certifications that reflect his ongoing commitment to industry standards and best practices.
A dedicated contributor to construction education, Williams is the author of three construction textbooks, with additional manuscripts currently in development. He has also published innovative abstracts and instructional articles focusing on building-material estimation, project management, and emerging educational methodologies within the construction trades. His work includes presentations, radio appearances, and public engagements designed to support broader community understanding of workforce development and construction practices.
Williams serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Master Trainer for the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER), contributing directly to national curriculum development and instructional quality assurance. He is also certified as both an OSHA 10 and OSHA 30 Construction Outreach Trainer, supporting his leadership in safety instruction and workforce preparation.
His institutional service includes membership on the Built Environment Committee with the Preservation Research Center, as well as ongoing roles as a presenter, workshop facilitator, and Green Build reviewer. He has led numerous seminars on framing techniques, project management, construction pedagogy, and innovative estimating methods.
A member of the Delgado faculty since 2007, Williams is recognized for his ability
to mentor, instruct, and motivate diverse student populations. Recently transitioning
from the Jefferson Campus to the Sidney Collier Campus, he continues to support program
development, curriculum refinement, and student success initiatives. His teaching
emphasizes academic rigor, industry alignment, and the development of professional
competencies essential to residential construction careers.
