Student Government Association Honors Officers at 2025 Banquet

May 21, 2025

The Delgado Community College’s Student Government Association (SGA) held its annual banquet on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at The Blue Crab Restaurant in New Orleans. Students, faculty, and staff enjoyed dinner while celebrating accomplishments and sharing words of encouragement.

Organized by Assistant Director of Student Life Allie Johnson and Student Life Coordinator Laura Lindstrom, the event featured Michelle Greco, Director of Enrollment Management, as keynote speaker. Greco emphasized the transformative power of saying “yes” to new opportunities, sharing how this mindset shaped her own career journey in higher education. She encouraged students to embrace challenges, commit fully, and continuously build transferable skills that open unexpected doors throughout life.

“The trick is to not just say yes, but to give it 100% and learn new skill sets. When you're faced with a challenge and thinking, ‘This feels scary,’ or ‘What will people think of me?’—those fears are real. But what's the risk of saying no? Saying no means you might miss out on a future opportunity you can’t even see yet,” Greco explained. “So every time that fear creeps in about saying yes and opening a new door, remind yourself: saying no closes it. Saying yes might feel uncomfortable or bring a little fear of change—but all of that will fade in time, and you’ll gain the benefit that comes with the ‘yes.’”

And please never settle,” Duplessis implored. “Let us step forward with confidence, knowing that the future of Delgado Community College and the community in which we serve is brighter because of what you have started. Tonight is a celebration, but it's also a charge to keep building and serving. The future is in your hands.”
