Dr. Sylvia Solomon
Established 78 years ago, the LSBBA is a professional organization dedicated to advancing the beauty and barbering industries across Louisiana. LSBBA hosts annual workshops, conventions, and trade shows that provide licensed beauticians, barbers, cosmetologists, estheticians, instructors, and students with continuing education, networking opportunities, and the latest industry trends. The association promotes high standards of ethics, safety, and professional development and advocates for robust licensing requirements. LSBBA works to uplift its members, enhance public safety, and ensure the economic and social welfare of Louisiana’s beauty practitioners.
“Dr. Solomon’s succession marks not only the continuation of a proud tradition but also the promise of a bright future for our community of professionals,” said Dr. Theresa Armstead, LSBBA past president. “Her dedication, leadership, and vision will undoubtedly steer the association toward new heights of excellence and innovation.”
Solomon’s career in cosmetology spans nearly 40 years. Her experience includes working in nail technology and hairdressing, participating in nail competitions, mentoring students, teaching at conventions and workshops, and owning her own salon. Over the years, she has earned associate, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees, and has completed postdoctoral studies.
Encouraged by a client with ties to Delgado, Solomon began teaching at the college, where she has now served for 15 years.
“I enjoy the outcome of students taking on a new field of study they may not have been originally interested in,” Solomon said.
Solomon said being selected LSBBA president was a pleasant surprise.
“I didn’t run for the position; I was picked from the floor. Others saw me as being a leader at this time when needed,” she explained.
As president of LSBBA, Solomon aims to enhance her teaching practices while emphasizing the importance of continuing education as a pathway to career growth for cosmetologists. She also hopes to inspire students to establish a local LSBBA chapter to increase engagement in professional development in the field.
