Delgado Spring 8-week Session Registration Continues; Classes Offered Fully Online, Hybrid Online, and at Seven Convenient Locations

February 15, 2023

Registration is now open for Spring 8-week Session classes at Delgado Community College. New and continuing students should be sure to enroll and register as soon as possible. Financial aid including scholarships is available to qualified students.

The Spring 8-week Session begins March 15 and enables a student to earn a credential for a high-demand, high-wage career by successfully completing nine or fewer credit hours in only eight weeks. Program offerings include Information Technology, Child Care and Teaching, Hospitality Management, Healthcare, Accounting and Real Estate. Spring 8-week Session registration continues until classes begin.

Now is the time to apply—which is free—and submit financial aid and scholarship applications. Enrollment begins with a visit to the Delgado website, www.dcc.edu, or by contacting the Enrollment team at enroll@dcc.edu or 504-671-5330.

Those who reside outside of Louisiana pay the same low tuition as Louisiana residents—$195 per credit hour, including required textbooks. Delgado’s tuition and fees are the lowest of any SACSCOC accredited higher education institution in the New Orleans region.

Scholarship opportunities at Delgado include the Uplift Scholarship program, a partnership between Delgado and The PepsiCo Foundation to address education inequalities facing African American and Hispanic populations. Scholarships are awarded to qualifying students to help offset tuition and other costs. The scholarship program offers academic and technical training courses to help students complete their education and earn jobs in high-growth, high-demand fields.

Delgado offers instruction online and at seven locations, including the City Park, West Bank (Algiers), Sidney Collier, Charity School of Nursing and Maritime and Industrial Training Center locations in New Orleans, the River City Site in Avondale and the Jefferson Site in Metairie.

Many academic courses at Delgado are either completely online or include an online component. Online courses are not new at Delgado. The college has been a leader in online education for more than 15 years, and always offers a large variety of online classes, as well as “hybrid” classes that are part online and part face-to-face.

Delgado is now offering Virtual Live classes--online classes held at a specific time and day, allowing students to interact with the instructor and other class members as they would in a face-to-face setting, but doing that virtually.

Another new course type is the Hybrid Virtual Live class. In these classes, one day out of the week the student will be asked to login to the online class at a specific time to interact with the instructor and classmates. All other class work will be completed at the student’s own pace.

Because the college recognizes that students do not have equal access to online technology, Delgado has created a laptop loan program to provide access and knowledge about using technology. Students enrolled for at least six credit hours can apply for a laptop with free wi-fi access via a mobile hotspot. The number of devices is limited, and they are loaned on a first-come, first-served basis.

Founded in 1921, Delgado is the oldest and largest community college in Louisiana. As well as offering associate degrees and transferable college credits, Delgado provides diplomas and certifications in dozens of professional and technical areas. A Delgado education leads to enhanced employment opportunities or transfer to a four-year college.

The popular Louisiana Transfer Degree program ensures acceptance at all public four-year colleges and universities in the state. Articulation agreements with a variety of public and private institutions in Louisiana and in other states broaden the educational opportunities of Delgado graduates and enhance the value of their Delgado associate degree.
