Higher Education & Health Took Center Stage During Delgado’s Super Saturday Event
July 24, 2025

Delgado Community College hosted a Super Saturday registration event on Saturday, July 19, 2025. The event was presented by Louisiana Healthcare Connections, which hosted a community health and wellness event during Super Saturday.
More than 250 individuals attended Super Saturday, where they gained access to information about admissions, financial aid, academic advising, as well as health screenings and resources. Attendees were also able to register, schedule classes, and meet with representatives from the college’s academic and workforce divisions to identify the training that best meets their career objectives. The event also featured a backpack and school supply giveaway.
Louisiana Healthcare Connections arranged for community partners to share resources and/or provide live demonstrations during the event: Delgado’s nursing students (blood pressure screenings); DePaul Community Services; Volunteers of America Recovery Services; Second Harvest Food Bank; and New Orleans Regional Transit Authority.
Delgado, the largest community college in Louisiana, offers more than 100 degree programs and technical certificates, serves an average of 21,000 students annually, and produces 48% of nurses in the region. The college’s economic impact is also far-reaching, accounting for one in every 90 jobs and $588 million in income in the region.
“Delgado prepares graduates for success in the workforce, long-term employability, and advanced learning through education that is affordable, flexible, and transferable. Super Saturday is Delgado’s open invitation to the community to enroll in the college, meet with our dedicated team, and explore what Delgado and our community partners offer,” said Dr. Larissa Littleton-Steib, Chancellor of Delgado Community College.
“By integrating community health services into this Super Saturday event, we’re addressing a broader range of student and family needs—because we know that academic success doesn’t happen in isolation,” said Dr Dana Lawson, Sr. Vice President of Population Health & Clinical Operations with Louisiana Healthcare Connections. “Our goal is to empower participants not only to succeed in the classroom but also to take charge of their health and well-being. When we support the whole individual, we strengthen the pathway from education to employment and build a healthier, more resilient workforce for Louisiana’s future.”
