Delgado Community College Celebrating Technical Skills Expo

October 09, 2018

This month, Delgado Community College will host its Technical Skills Expo (TSE), an event that introduces high school students to high-wage and high-demand occupations. Since the first expo in 2013, Delgado, event sponsor Chevron, and other business partners have provided overviews of occupations with hands-on demonstrations on state-of-the-art equipment to more than 2,500 students.

To celebrate the success of the event over the years, community leaders, public officials and Chevron representatives will come together on Monday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. at the Delgado Community College Jefferson Site, located at 5200 Blair Drive in Metairie.

“Over the years, it has been extremely rewarding to provide students this opportunity to learn about the many career options available to them at Delgado,” said Dr. Arnel W. Cosey, vice chancellor of Student Affairs. “The Technical Skills Expo has played an instrumental role in the lives and careers of many individuals in our community. We are extremely grateful to Chevron and all those who have contributed to the success of this event along the way.”

The Technical Skills Expo will take place on Monday, Oct. 15 and Tuesday, Oct. 16 and will showcase the diverse programs offered by Delgado to high school students through its popular Dual Enrollment (DE) program. This year the TSE will highlight the college’s electrical, automotive, water and wastewater technology, welding and machining and instrumentation programs.

“Chevron is pleased to again partner with Delgado in hosting this exciting event,” said Leah Brown, public affairs manager for Chevron’s Gulf of Mexico Business Unit. “Over two days, through live demonstrations, hundreds of young minds will learn more about the tremendous opportunities within local industries. For many students, the Technical Skills Expo will hopefully be a first step to a promising career.”
