Satisfactory Academic Progress

The United States Department of Education mandates that students maintain satisfactory academic progress (SAP) toward completion of their degrees within a reasonable period of time to be eligible for Title IV financial aid programs, including Pell, Federal SEOG, Federal Work Study, and Federal Direct Student Loans.

Students must meet the following standards:

(1) Grade point average- Achieving and maintaining at least a 2.00 grade point average

(2) Pace of progression- Passing a required number of hours (67% of all hours attempted)

(3) Maximum timeframe- Total overall hours must not exceed 150% of the published length of a student’s degree program

Review the LCTCS SAP Policy.

SAP Process

If mitigating circumstances prevented a student from meeting the requirements, a SAP Appeal may be filed.

Complete the online form via LOLA Self Service.
  • Log in to LOLA
  • Select the Student tab along the top
  • Under Check Financial Aid, click on Delgado Community College
  • At the top right, select the Award Year you wish to view
  • Select the Satisfactory Academic Progress tab to review your status.
  1. Check your SAP standards on your LOLA Self Service. Students will receive notification of SAP suspension via email. It is the student’s responsibility to have a valid email address on file.
  2. Submit your complete appeal online via LOLA Self Service Appeal form link. If a student has mitigating circumstances for not meet SAP standards, the student has the right to submit an appeal (A mitigating circumstance is an unusual or unexpected event beyond the student's control.)
  3. The committee will review the appeal and their decision is final.
  4. Students who have successful appeals are then put on an academic plan. Students will receive notification via email of their academic plan requirements.
  5. Students whose appeals are denied, must attend at their own expense until (1) the student meets the academic standards as outlined in the SAP policy or (2) the student successfully appeals and is approved to be placed on an academic plan in a future payment period.
