Synopsis:
A satirical play by Robert O'Hara about a dysfunctional family holding an intervention for their sister Barbara's drug addiction, disguised as a park barbecue. The play features two sets of actors—one white and one Black—playing the same family, juxtaposing their experiences to explore race, class, addiction, and media perception, subverting expectations about what an addict looks like.
The production staff includes Costume design by Jennifer Johnson; Scene design by James Means. Lighting and Sound design by Eddie McIntyre.
Barbecue is written by Robert O’Hara and directed by R’Myni Watson. The production will be performed by students and alumni from Delgado’s Theatre Program, as well as members of the New Orleans theatre community. Barbecue is produced with special arrangement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide.
