School of Allied Health Food Drive for Single Stop Care Corner

December 14, 2023

Food insecurity is a global issue that has affected many people, particularly young students. For almost a decade, many School of Allied Health members have helped stock the shelves of our Single Stop's Care Corner. The collected non-perishable food and hygiene items are available to students, faculty, and staff. According to one study, 6.2% of the U.S. population, about 20.6 million individuals, live in areas considered "food deserts" (Woodruff et al., 2020). A "PBS News Hour" segment stated that more than 17% of Orleans Parish households were affected by food insecurity (Chavez, 2022).

Special thanks to adjunct faculty member Cheryl Wright; Rene Randall, Director of the Respiratory Care Technology Program; Ty Delger, Director of the Radiologic Technology Program; and faculty members Mavis Larrimer, Rebecca Mercer, and Tammy Kliebert. This service project would not have happened without the collaboration of the School of Allied Health members. We are grateful for their service to our students and the College.
