Delgado announces their latest production, Barbecue by Robert O’Hara

Barbecue opens Wednesday, April 15th at the Timothy K. Baker Theatre: 615 City Park Ave (1st Floor) of Building 1. The production will run one weekend only: Wednesday, April 15th through Saturday, April 18th at 7:30pm, and Sunday, April 19th at 2:30pm.
Thursday, April 16th performance includes American Sign Language interpretation.

Synopsis: A satirical play by Robert O'Hara about a dysfunctional family holding an intervention for their sister Barbara's drug addiction, disguised as a park barbecue. The play features two sets of actors—one white and one Black—playing the same family, juxtaposing their experiences to explore race, class, addiction, and media perception, subverting expectations about what an addict looks like.
The production staff includes Costume design by Jennifer Johnson; Scene design by James Means. Lighting and Sound design by Eddie McIntyre.
*Before the Saturday, April 18th performance at 5:30PM, Delgado Theatre will host a Talkback discussing the personal and communal consequences of having one’s truth filtered through stereotype, expectation, or discomfort. It will feature the director of the production, cast members; as well as a legal, professional, and academic points of view. All welcome to attend the talkback before and stay for the show.
Barbecue is written by Robert O’Hara and directed by R’Myni Watson. The production will be performed by students and alumni from Delgado’s Theatre Program, as well as members of the New Orleans theatre community. Barbecue is produced with special arrangement with Theatrical Rights Worldwide.
