Production Synopsis: Written in 1921, taking place in 2000 and beyond, R.U.R. – Rossum’s Universal Robots tells the cautionary story of a factory that mass-produces artificial people called “Robots” to serve humanity. Initially a triumph of science and industry, the Robots eventually revolt, leading to the extinction of nearly all humankind. What happens when Robots / AI take over the world? Delgado Theatre will also showcase Edgar Allan Poe’s story of revenge, The Cask of Amontillado, as a delightful piece of man-made storytelling just in time for Halloween. Both pieces will be presented as a radio-play style production.
The production staff includes costume design by Charlie Pettus, scene design by James Means and lighting and sound design by Eddie McIntyre.
R.U.R. – Rossum’s Universal Robots is written by Karel Čapek and The Cask of Amontillado is written by Edgar Allan Poe, both directed by Kris LaMorte. The production will be performed by students, faculty and alumni of Delgado’s Theatre Program.
