Motor Vehicle Technology Certificate of Technical Studies


The Motor Vehicle Technology Certificate of Technical Studies offers two concentrations: General Automotive and Collision Repair.

The general automotive concentration is designed to provide a foundation of general theory and operation for the tasks specified by NATEF and covers theory, repair and diagnostic procedures for all eight major automotive systems.

Coursework includes the following: 

  • Advanced Brake/Steering and Suspension Systems
  • Engine Performance/Diagnosis/Repair
  • Manual Drivetrain and Axles
  • Automatic Transmissions
  • Climate Control Systems

Collision Repair

This concentration focuses on collision repair and automotive painting. Students receive classroom and hands-on training in vehicle repair procedures and techniques through classroom discussions and applied lab and shop practices. You’ll learn to use specialized tools, materials and techniques for metal working and body panel installation and replacement.  You’ll also learn to perform the latest techniques and procedures for high technology finishes, painting and detailing, color matching and buffing, as well as spot repairs.

Coursework includes the following:

  • Automotive Gas Metal Arc Welding
  • Auto Painting Techniques
  • Automotive Painting
