Proposal Submission Deadline: January 10, 2025

Delgado Community College is excited to host the 2025 Louisiana Gateway English & Math Success Symposium (LaGEMSS). This symposium invites educators, administrators, and practitioners to share innovative practices, research, and strategies to improve student success in gateway English and Mathematics courses.

Symposium Tracks

LaGEMSS welcomes proposals that focus on the following areas:

  1. Best Practices in Gateway English or Mathematics
  2. Integrated Reading and Writing
  3. Metacognition
  4. Growth Mindset
  5. Academic Support—Writing Centers, Embedded Tutors, Mathematics Labs
  6. Community, Belonging, and Inclusivity
  7. AI Literacy and Tools
  8. Implementation and Administration of Corequisite Courses

Session Formats

  • 45-minute Presentations*: Individual or small group presentations on best practices, research, or case studies.
  • 45-minute Workshops: Interactive sessions providing hands-on experience with teaching techniques or tools.
  • 45-minute Panel Discussions*: Sessions featuring multiple speakers addressing a common theme or issue.

*Note: At least 10 minutes of any 45-minute presentation or panel discussion should be reserved for Q&A and/or audience discussion.

Proposal Guidelines

Proposals should include:

  1. Presenter Information: Name, position, institution, and email address for each presenter.
  2. Session Title: (20 words max)
  3. Session Format: Choose from the options above.
  4. Track: Select the most appropriate track from the list above.
  5. Summary: (50 words max) Briefly summarize your session for the symposium program
  6. Detailed Description: (300-500 words) A comprehensive overview of the session, including:
  • The purpose, learning objectives, or goals of the session
  • An overview of the research, evidence-based teaching strategies, and/or best practices presented in the session
  • A short outline or description of what will happen during the session
  • An explanation of how the presentation will actively engage attendees in discussions or other activities

Selection Criteria

Proposals will be evaluated based on:

  • Relevance to Gateway Course Success
  • Innovation and Contribution
  • Clarity and Organization
  • Evidence-Based Practice/Research
  • Potential Impact on Student Success
  • Applicability across Institutions
  • Engagement and Interactivity
  • Alignment with Symposium Tracks

Technology

All presentation rooms will be equipped with computers, projectors, and internet.

Submission Process

Submit your proposal through our online submission system, which you can access by clicking the button below.

Notifications of acceptance will be sent by February 15, 2025. Accepted presenters must confirm participation and register for the conference by March 15, 2025.
