Recognition Event for NOLA High School Students Sailing Aboard Tall Ship

The Delgado Community College Maritime and Industrial Training Center will host a recognition event for 10 New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy (NOMMA) students who on April 19 will have completed a two-week Gulf Coast voyage, Galveston-Pensacola-New Orleans, as crew in training on the tall ship Picton Castle.

Delgado Maritime Training Center and Tall Ship Picton Castle Provide Educational Opportunity for NOLA Students

Ten students from the New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy (NOMMA) have embarked on a 17-day voyage aboard the sailing training ship Picton Castle. These students are on a maritime career track, and have already begun maritime training at NOMMA. NOMMA students have been working with the Delgado Community College Maritime and Industrial Training Center to take courses for their Standards of Training, Certification & Watchkeeping certifications, known in the industry as STCW, an internationally recognized maritime certification.

Chancellor Joan Davis is sad to announce the passing of a dear friend and lifelong supporter of Delgado Community College, Woody Ogé, at age 74. He died peacefully at his home in Gretna on Wednesday, April 4.
