Who can receive disability accommodations at Delgado Community College?
Current and prospective students with a documented disability may be eligible for reasonable accommodations. Eligibility is determined through an interactive review process by the Office of Student Accessibility.
Student Activities

To request accommodations, you must:

  • Meet with the Student Accessibility Coordinator.
  • Complete the required intake and agreement forms.
  • Submit documentation from a qualified professional.
  • Submit a Semester Accommodation Request Form each semester you wish to receive accommodations.
What documentation do I need?
Students must provide documentation from a qualified healthcare or licensed professional that supports the existence of a disability and explains the need for accommodations. Documentation is reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
What types of accommodations are available?

Accommodations are individualized based on a student's documented needs and may include:

  • Extended testing time
  • Reduced-distraction testing environment
  • Sign language interpreters
  • Readers or scribes
  • Assistive technology
  • Accessible course materials
  • Other reasonable accommodations approved by the Office of Student Accessibility.
Do I have to request accommodations every semester?

Yes. Students must submit a Semester Accommodation Request Form each semester or session to receive accommodation letters for their instructors.

Can my professor deny or change my approved accommodations?

No. Faculty are required to implement accommodations approved by the Office of Student Accessibility. If there are concerns about an accommodation, the instructor must consult with the Student Accessibility Coordinator before making any changes.

Is my disability information confidential?

Yes. All disability-related documentation and records are kept confidential and are only shared with your permission or as permitted by law.

Can I bring a service animal to campus?

Yes. Students who use an animal service should register with the Office of Student Accessibility. Under the ADA, a service animal is a dog that has been individually trained to perform tasks directly related to a person's disability. Emotional support animals are not considered service animals under the ADA.
