Admissions Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a high school diploma or equivalency to attend Delgado?

No. If you are 16 years of age or older, you do not need to have a high school diploma or equivalency. Certain academic programs may require a high school diploma or equivalency. These programs are listed in the College Catalog. To be eligible for federal financial aid, you must have a high school diploma or equivalency.

I am 16 and have received a high school diploma from a state approved high school. Can I attend Delgado?

Yes, you can attend Delgado, but you must satisfy the general admissions requirements.

I am still attending high school. Can I attend Delgado at the same time?

Yes, High school students may meet requirements for college admission if they fall into one of the following categories: dual enrollment, concurrent enrollment, or summer enrollment.   

What documents do I need to attend to Delgado?

You will need to submit an application for admission, either proof of immunization compliance or immunization waiver, and proof of selective service registration (if applicable).

I am a first-time freshman. Do I need ACT scores to be admitted?

ACT scores are not required, but certain scores on the ACT will be used to determine your general education placement. For more information on ACT placement, visit the Delgado testing website.

I do not have ACT scores. Can I still attend Delgado?

Yes. If you want to earn an associate degree or certificate, you may take the Placement Assessment, although it is not required.bThe Placement Assessment is not a pass/fail assessment; it can be used to determine placement in general education courses (English, Math, and Reading). If you do not want to take the placement assessment, you will be placed into pre-college courses.

I am not interested in pursuing any type of credentials. Do I still have to take the Placement Assessment?

No, the Placement Assessment is used to determine placement in general education courses. If you do not want to take the placement assessment, you will be placed into pre-college courses.

Do I have to attend New Student Orientation?

All new first-year students to Delgado Community College must participate in New Student Orientation.  New Student Orientation is offered in person.  Visit our new student orientation page for details. 

I am a First-Time Freshman. How do I know what classes to enroll in?

All First-Time Freshmen are encouraged first attend New student Orientation, then meet with an Academic Advisor to discuss the courses needed for their program.

I am on academic suspension from my last college attended. Can I still attend Delgado?

Yes. Transfer students who are on academic probation or suspension may be admitted to Delgado in good standing once they satisfy general admission requirements.

I am unable to obtain an official copy of my previous college transcript. Can I still attend Delgado?

Yes. You can attend Delgado once you have satisfied the general admissions requirements, however, you will not be able to transfer in any credits without the official transcript.

Will my previous credits transfer to Delgado?

Delgado will review transfer credits from all regionally accredited colleges and universities. The Academic Division Dean's determines acceptance of transfer credits to satisfy degree/certificate course requirements. You must request an official transcript to be sent to the Registrar's Office. I last attended college 30 years ago. Will my credits transfer to Delgado?

The Academic Division Dean determines acceptance of courses taken more than 10 years ago. You must request an official transcript to be sent to the Registrar's Office. Submit Official Transcript.

I last attended college 30 years ago. My major at Delgado is not related to my previous coursework. Do I need to provide that transcript?

No. Previous college transcripts are not required. You would only have to meet the general admissions requirements.

I previously attended Delgado. Do I need to resubmit the admissions documents?

You do not need to resubmit official documents if you have previously done so.   However, you are required to submit an application for admission.
